The Global Entry program is administered by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). It is designed to help pre-approved, low-risk travelers pass through customs more quickly when arriving in the United States. Members can use automated kiosks at select airports to expedite their entry process. The goal of the program is to make international travel more convenient.

The primary benefit of Global Entry is that it significantly reduces wait times at customs. Members bypass standard customs lines and use automated kiosks for quicker re-entry into the U.S. Additionally, Global Entry members are automatically eligible for TSA PreCheck, which offers expedited security screening at participating airports.

Another advantage is that several other countries recognize and honor Global Entry. This allows members to receive faster processing when entering those nations, saving valuable time and minimizing hassle—especially during peak travel seasons.

To apply, individuals must complete an application through the Global Online Enrollment System (GOES). The process includes a comprehensive background check and an in-person interview at a Global Entry Enrollment Center. Applicants must provide proof of citizenship or lawful permanent residency and pay a non-refundable application fee.

Since approval can take several weeks, travelers should plan ahead. Once approved, members receive a Global Entry card that is valid for five years. For detailed application guidelines and FAQs, visit the official CBP Global Entry page.

Global Entry is ideal for frequent international travelers who want to save time and reduce the stress of long customs lines. Business travelers, in particular, may find the program highly beneficial.
