The Journey Begins

I started my adventure flying with British Airways, and let me tell you, the excitement was real. The flight from London Heathrow to Malé took about 10 hours and 25 minutes. As we approached the Maldives, I could see the stunning blue ocean from my window. It was the most breathtaking landing I’ve ever experienced.

Upon landing, I was greeted by a friendly staff member from Alila Kothaifaru, which eased my nerves. After collecting my luggage, we headed to the seaplane terminal. The new terminal, opened in October 2022, was spacious and comfortable, with complimentary snacks and drinks while we waited for our flight.

Seaplane Adventure

Boarding the seaplane was thrilling. It was smaller than I expected, with just five rows of seats. The views from above were nothing short of spectacular. I felt like I was flying over a postcard, with islands and turquoise waters stretching as far as the eye could see. The 40-minute flight flew by, and soon enough, we were landing at Alila Kothaifaru.

Arrival At Alila Kothaifaru

As soon as I arrived, the staff welcomed me with music and a refreshing towel. They took care of my bags and introduced me to the resort. Alila Kothaifaru is relatively new, having opened in 2022, and it’s absolutely stunning. The colors of the water were mesmerizing, and I couldn’t wait to explore.

Resort Highlights

  • Water Sports Center: Offers snorkeling equipment and various activities.

  • Dining Options: Seasalt restaurant for all meals, Umami for dinner (reservation needed), and a casual Yakitori Bar.

  • Spa and Gym: The spa has a treehouse concept, and the gym is open 24/7.

My Overwater Villa

Finally, I reached my overwater villa, and wow, it was everything I dreamed of. The room was spacious and bright, featuring a king bed, a sofa, and a private infinity pool. The view from my deck was breathtaking, with 180 degrees of ocean in sight. I felt like I was in paradise.

Villa Amenities

  • Comfortable Bed: King size with a beautiful view.

  • Bathroom: Double sink, bathtub, and a separate shower with an ocean view.

  • Mini Bar: Stocked with drinks and snacks.

Dining Experiences

Dining at Alila was a treat. I enjoyed my first dinner at the Seasalt restaurant, where I opted for the catch of the day. The atmosphere was lovely, with the sound of the ocean and soft music in the background. I was the only solo traveler there, but it didn’t bother me. I enjoyed my meal while watching couples around me.

Breakfast the next day was a buffet dream. I arrived early to avoid the crowd and was greeted with a variety of options, from fresh fruits to made-to-order omelets. The matcha latte with coconut milk was a highlight!

Exploring the Resort

After breakfast, I took a stroll around the resort. The infinity pool was inviting, and I checked out the gym and spa. The spa had a serene atmosphere, and I could hear birds singing while I explored. I also visited the library, a perfect spot to relax and read.

Final Day Reflections

As my trip came to an end, I felt a mix of emotions. I didn’t want to leave this beautiful place. I had one last breakfast, trying different dishes before heading back to the seaplane. The staff helped me with my luggage, and I took in the views one last time.

Conclusion

My solo trip to the Maldives was a dream come true. Alila Kothaifaru exceeded my expectations with its beauty, comfort, and hospitality. If you’re considering a solo trip, I highly recommend it. Embrace the adventure, and you might just find your own slice of paradise!
